Nichts fÖ¼r Weicheier! – A week full of skating in Mallorca
I guess many of you STHLM SPEED clubmembers remember Mike and Mayke, my German guests who were in Stockholm the past winter to do some serious iceskating. They are also very serious inline skaters, which is someting I learned during a week of skating with them in Mallorca.
Actually, I learned that already last year, when I met them during Barry Publow’s Speed Camp in Alcudia. This year we decided to some skating on our own, and the location we picked was Cala Ferrer. So, I packed my new Junkers, my speedsuite and some sunlotion and hopped on the Sterling flight to Palma.
Meeting the locals
Cala Ferrer turned out not to have ideal skating conditions, but since we had rented a car, we could scout for nicer places to skate. The area around Santanyi was really good, but the almost perfect conditions were found around the town of Campos. Long backroads with really nice asphalt and very little traffic turned out to be skating heaven.
The perfect black road
The week contained tourskating, sprints and interval training, dryland skating, plyometrics on the beach and also some videoanalysis. Our filming technique will not render any Oscar though. We also had lots of interesting discussions about training techniques, pack skating and lots of other skating stuff.
Plyometrics on the beach
The only downside was Mike’s fall during one of the sprint sessions. He got some pretty ugly scratchwounds, but is now feeling much better.
Nichts fÖ¼r Weicheier!
I can really recommend a Mallorca trip, to get the season started. Maybe I’ll se YOU there next year.
